Gville July temp average 2+ degrees above normal

Temperatures through the month of July in Georgia were around a degree above normal, with Gainesville leading the way among reporting stations for the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Peachtree City. At the same time, rainfall in the state during the month was about three inches above normal, putting a noticeable dent in the drought that has had its grip on most of Georgia for several months.

The average temp in Gainesville was 81.2 degrees or 2.4 above normal, according to the July Climate Summary. The hottest day of the month was the 14th when the mercury topped out at 97 degrees.

Gainesville recorded 7.45 inches of rain during July which is 4.42 inches more than normal but a far cry from the record setting 14.02 inches that fell in Atlanta. That’s 9.27 inches above average.

Again, these numbers are for the area served by the NWS Peachtree City office. Other parts of the state are fall under two NWS offices in Florida, either the one in Tallahassee or the one in Jacksonville.
