UPDATE. GSP: ‘Impairment’ may have been factor in fatal Winder Hwy. accident

A Georgia State Patrol (GSP) report released Sunday morning says “impairment” may have been a factor in a three-vehicle accident Saturday on Winder Highway at Strickland Road which, the report adds, involved a wrong-way driver who died in the crash.

GSP NARRATIVE:

“…The investigation determined a Honda HR-V was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the divided highway.

The HR-V, driven by Juan de Dios Ramirez, 63, Gainesville, struck a westbound GMC Acadia, driven by Kyle Fendlay, 52, of Manchester, MD,  head-on, causing the Acadia to overturn.  A Toyota Camry, driven by Andy Mijangos, 21, of Lawrenceville, was following behind the Acadia and swerved to avoid the collision.  The Camry traveled off of the north shoulder and struck a curb.

Mr. Ramirez was pronounced deceased on the scene.  Mr. Fendlay, his wife and four children were transported from the scene for treatment of minor injures.  Mr. Mijangos was uninjured.

The westbound lanes of Winder Hwy were closed for approximately 2 hours for the investigation…”
