The drought-free areas in Georgia increased by about 25 percent over the past week but the drought continues its grip on north Georgia and most of central Georgia, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).
The drought-free parts of the state are confined to an area roughly bordered by Augusta, Brunswick and Bainbridge and total about 36 percent of Georgia.
In northeast Georgia, conditions worsened since last Thursday in some places including Forsyth County which is now about evenly split between “severe” conditions and a “moderate” drought. In all of Hall County and most parts of north Georgia, the drought is still considered “moderate” in intensity despite all the rain we’ve had the past seven days.
