UPDATE: Hall road reopens

UPDATE: 10:30 A.M. SATURDAY: Brackett said Saturday morning that Chicopee Street at 5th Street reopened about 9:00 Friday night.

EARLIER POST. 6:45 P.M. FRIDY: Two Hall County roads remained closed as late as 6:00 Friday afternoon following a sudden hourlong downpour in some places.

The county’s Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security Director reported that Old Oakwood Road is washed out near Primex Plastics and “will be closed until it is determined to be safe by the City of Oakwood.”

Zach Brackett also said that Chicopee Street at 5th Street is closed due to flooding, but he expected it to reopen “once the water recedes. Citizens are encouraged to avoid both areas, obey any signage that is posted, and remember to not travel through standing water.”

Brackett said the county also had a few trees down that impacted roads but by late afternoon they were all either “cleaned up or being worked on currently.”

And he noted that the weather service is calling for additional rainfall over the weekend.

The weather service had issued a Flast Flood Warning for southern parts of the county. It expired at 5:45, noting in the advisory that in some places rain was falling at the rate of one-to-two inches an hour. Once the rain had moved out reports began coming in of just how much did fall. Totals in excess of three inches were not uncommon.
