Police Beat: More Lanier BUIs; Burglary; New charges in drug case

*Lake Lanier ended up with eleven BUIs for the holiday weekend with the final statewide total put at 32 by the state Department of Natural Resources. The count ended at midnight Sunday. And the state ended the holiday period with 18 reported traffic fatalities – none in the immediate Gainesville area.

*A resident in the 1500 block of Whitmire Drive reported someone broke into his house over the weekend and took $700 in cash from the residence along with a few other things. “Several THC vapes were also missing,” a spokeswoman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) wrote in an email. “A hole had been kicked in the wall of the room. No suspects have been identified at this time.”

*Additional charges have been filed by Oakwood Police against one of two Habersham County men arrested last week on drug charges. Frederick Bishop, 70, Clarkesville, originally charged with possession of marijuana and drug-related objects is now also charged with Trafficking in Cocaine/Illegal Drugs/Marijuana/Meth and Possession of Schedule 1 or 2 Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute.
