One week after a tree cutter died on the job near Gainesville, another has lost his life when he fell out of a tree in Alpharetta.
51-year-old Manuel Moran fell 20-45 feet from a tree Wednesday morning, a day before his 52nd birthday.
He leaves behind a wife and three children. A GoFundMe account has been set up to support them.
In the earlier incident, a Dahlonega man was killed in a similar accident in North Hall.
Meanwhile, a state legislative committee was appointed earlier this year to study whether stronger safety standards are needed for tree cutters in Georgia, something industry leaders support.
During a hearing Feb. 9, Rep. Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia) presented the resolution to create the study committee to the House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee, emphasizing the dangerous nature of the tree care profession.
He noted that it is one of the most hazardous careers both here and overseas, adding that the resolution intends to support tree care professionals in making their industry safer.
