*A convicted felon who had been arrested 19 times previously now faces charges in Tuesday’s bus hijacking in Fulton County. Joseph Grier, 39, allegedly took command of the Gwinnett Transit bus in downtown Atlanta after getting into an argument with and shooting and killing a fellow passenger. That led to a police chase that included Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. Police finally were able to stop the bus in DeKalb.
*Another suit has been filed which is aimed at stopping the creation of a new town in Gwinnett near the Hall County line. A referendum was approved May 21 apparently clearing the way for the creation of Mulberry. Just days before the vote a suit was filed in an attempt to nullify the outcome, but a judge dismissed it.
*A part of South Carolina was rattled by an earthquake early Tuesday, on the heels of three tremors near the Hall-Gwinnett County line since last Thursday. The South Carolina quake measure 2.2 on the Richter Scale and was centered near Leslie, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
*The Hall County Republican Party will host a candidate forum Saturday featuring the candidates in Tuesday’s runoff for county commission chairman – David Gibbs and Richard Higgins. It’s planned for the civic center. Refreshments at 9:30; the forum begins at 10:00 and is scheduled to end of 11:30.
