NGHS’ Burrell chosen for Atlanta business publication top award

Carol Burrell, the retiring President & CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS), was recently recognized with the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Burrell, who announced earlier this year that she planned to step down, was presented with the award at the Chronicle’s Healthcare Champion Awards dinner.

In an article on the publication’s website Friday, the Atlanta Business Chronicle declared that “Under her watch, NGHS has transformed from a molehill into a mammoth” and wrote that the health system’s its central campus, Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville “is emerging as one of the largest hospitals in the state, and its new level one trauma center is reshaping the community.”

Burrell told the Chronicle even 20 years ago NGHS wouldn’t have been able to imagine doing the types of services now available in Gainesville and Lumpkin, Braselton, Barrow and Habersham counties.

Burrell, who became President & CEO in 2011, announced her retirement plans in February but did not specify a date.
