Investigation into Oakwood election continuing

Almost three months after the vote, the Secretary of State’s investigation into the March 12 special city council election in Oakwood continues.

Asked Monday if there was anything new to report surrounding the probe, office spokesman Robert Skinner would only say “all I can offer is that it’s an open investigation.”

The probe began after it was learned following the election that 200 people who do not live in Oakwood voted in the election which was held to fill a vacancy on the council created by the death of councilman Dwight Wood last fall. Wood’s widow, Rhonda, won the election and took office a few weeks later.

City officials at first held off on her swearing-in but then went ahead and scheduled it after more research into state elections laws.
