A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 9:30 May 30 for a two-year, $25 million-plus renovation of Bennett Park, the oldest park in the Forsyth County Parks & Recreation system.
“We are excited to begin this renovation project and bring new life to a
location that has served thousands of participants over the decades, as well as additional amenities to
better serve the surrounding community,” said parks and recreation director Kirk Franz.
Following the completion of the renovations, the park will boast two multi-purpose
rectangle fields, three baseball/softball fields, batting cages, picnic pavilions, a community building and
playground as well as paved and nature trails. A map of the approved plan can be found by clicking

Funding for the project is provided by an Improving Neighborhood Outcomes in Disproportionately
Impacted Communities Grant, which was awarded to the County in 2023, in the amount of $2.2 million to aid in renovations and improvements. Bennett Park is one of 142 projects in Georgia receiving funding from the grant. The total renovation project cost is estimated at $25.1 million with the remaining cost coming from the various funding sources including SPLOST, Capital Outlay and Impact Fees among others.
During construction, the park, which opened in 1978, will be closed to the public. The work is expected to be finished in 2026.
