Congressman to honor fallen Jackson Co. deputy

 Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) will honor Jackson County Deputy Lena Marshall today at a prayer vigil and flag laying ceremony hosted by Speaker Mike Johnson as part of National Police Week. 

Marshall was shot in the line of duty on November 5, 2021, in Hoschton, while responding to a domestic disturbance call. She succumbed to her gunshot wounds at a local hospital three days later. 

“Our nation’s law enforcement officers courageously risk their lives every time they don their uniforms,” Collins said in announcing plans for the today’s events. “It is my distinct privilege to lay an American flag in honor of Deputy Marshall, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Georgia communities.”

The prayer vigil will take place on the House Steps followed by the flag laying ceremony at the House Triangle in Washington. 

The flags will remain on their throughout National Police Week.
