9/11: Local observances

The Gainesville area 9/11 anniversary observances Friday included:

*The lowering of the American flag at Gainesville Fire headquarters at the time the first World Trade Center Tower in New York was hit.

*A ceremony at Antioch Baptist Church in Gainesville in memory of Edna Stephens, a Gainesville native who died when one of the hijacked planes hit the Pentagon where she worked.

*Hall County Fire Rescue’s Honor Guard participated in the service at Antioch Baptist. Crews attended the West Hall football game to present the colors and fly a flag and they participated in the West Hall High School Heroes Parade. In addition, there was a remembrance ceremony at Deaton Creek that Station 14 attended.
