UPDATE: Driver cited in 60,000-pound garbage spill

A portion of Candler Road was closed for about two hours early this morning after an 18-wheeler hauling garbage overturned, dumping about 60,000 pounds of the stuff. This happened about 2:00, according to the state patrol, between Old Candler Road and I-985.

State troopers charged the driver with failure to maintain lane. They say he was not seriously injured and had only a “complaint” of an injury.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED THURSDAY MORNING:

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, an estimated 60,000 pounds of garbage spilled from the rig, but it was quickly cleaned up and the road was not closed as long as first feared. No one was injured.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) is investigating.

The state patrol also responded.
