UPDATE: Name of Lake Lanier drowning victim released

10:00 A.M. FRIDAY UPDATE: The name of the man who drowned in Lake Lanier Thursday afternoon was released this (Friday) morning. He is Glenn Cunningham of Buford, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED 5:30 A.M. FRIDAY: A 60-year-old man apparently drowned while swimming in Lake Lanier Thursday afternoon. It happened at mid-afternoon at the Shoal Creek Campground.

The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) got the call about 3:30. Witnesses said the man, whose name has not been released, went under water and did not resurface.

His body was recovered about 7:30 in about nine feet of water.
