35-year-old man charged with rape, child molestation

A 35-year-old man remained in the Hall County Jail Tuesday night, charged with rape and child molestation among other things.

Diego Roberto Villacorta-Padilla was booked Monday morning about 9:30, according to jail records.

In addition to rape and child molestation, Villacorta-Padilla is also charged with sexual battery of a child under 16-years-old, cruelty to children in the first degree, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Details surrounding the incident have not been released.

He is being held without bond.

In 2005, he was presented with the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s President’s Award for Excellence in Journalism and in 2019 was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.

He lives in Gainesville with his wife of 52 years, the former Sandra McKnight of Clio, Alabama, and they have one child, a daughter, Lisa, who lives in Cumming with her family.
