An investigation is underway by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) into a reported attempt to extort $30,000 from a Gainesville man.
“The complainant asked to meet with a deputy to make a report after he began communicating with a woman (online),” according to the sheriff’s office. “The complainant said he and the woman first exchanged texts which escalated to the exchange of explicit photos. Once that happened, the woman sent emails demanding $30,000 or she would send evidence of their online relationship to his wife.”
A deputy obtained phone numbers, emails and other information for an investigation.
