Unpaid wages crackdown; Human trafficking crackdown

(GEORGIA NEWS NETWORK)

*Thousands of Georgia workers are currently owed unpaid wages. The federal government announced this week that close to two million dollars is sitting unclaimed by 5,600 people. You can head to the Georgia Department of Labor’s website to submit information for a claim. The money comes from labor investigations into Georgia businesses.

*Human trafficking is something the FBI is looking to lower in Georgia. An agency spokesperson told WJBF that cases are high in Georgia because of population, interstates and large events like conventions. Numbers from the FBI show that 12,000 men exploit young women every month across the state. Several new laws were signed by Gov. Brian Kemp last year that toughen human trafficking penalties.
