17-yr-old shooting suspect remains jailed

A 17-year-old, charged by Hall County authorities with firing BB pellets into a car in a North Hall neighborhood a few days ago, remained behind bars at mid-morning Monday. He was being held without bond.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies arrested a Gainesville man early Friday morning, March 22, for shooting a BB rifle at two vehicles in a neighborhood off of U.S. 129/Cleveland Highway.

Deputies obtained arrest warrants charging Matthew Raymond Otting, 17, twice each with aggravated assault (felony) and reckless conduct (misdemeanor) in connection with the incident that happened between 1:30 and 2:30 a.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, Otting fired the rifle at a moving vehicle on River North Drive, breaking two of its windows and causing several small dents. The two vehicle occupants, male, 17, and female, 16, did not suffer injuries. Additionally, Otting, who lives in the area, pointed the rifle at another vehicle, which was occupied by a man, 29, and woman, 28. They also did not suffer injuries.

Deputies responded and made contact with the victims. They located Otting and recovered the BB rifle a short time later. They transported him to the Hall County Jail where he remained held without bond on Monday morning, March 25.”
