Drought update; $13K+ fraud; Commerce cop fired

*The drought in Georgia just keeps hanging on. The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows things are virtually unchanged from a week ago. The drought is confined to a string of ten counties along the Tennessee and North Carolina lines from Towns County to Dade.

*An 84-year-old woman has told Gainesville Police she’s the victim of a $13,140 fraud. She says someone unknown to her charged that amount to one of her credit cards.

*A Commerce police officer whose DUI arrests had been under scrutiny is out of a job. Jacob Wood was fired following an internal investigation. (EARLIER STORY. POSTED FEB. 3): A Commerce police officer is on administrative leave as the GBI investigates complaints against him. At issue are some of the DUI cases Jacob Wood has made over the years. The complaints against him allege that some of those who were charged may not have been driving under the influence.)
