126 mph chase on 985 leads to arrests of two metro Atlanta men

One of two Loganville men arrested several days ago by the state patrol following a high-speed chase on I-985 during while speeds reportedly reached 126 mph remained in the Hall County Jail Wednesday morning. Bobby Maurice Hammond is being held without bond. The other driver, Neil Mark Harris, posted bonds totaling $5,700 Monday night, according to a spokeswoman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigating trooper said in his report, which was released Wednesday, he began trying to stop the pair, both 21-years-old, after he saw them driving recklessly, darting in and out of traffic, while racing each other at a high rate of speed in South Hall about 1:30 the morning of Jan. 27. The trooper says he initially clocked them at between 85 and 90 mph but that escalated to 126 mph after the pursuit began.

Hammond finally stopped his car and was placed under arrest, but Harris kept going only to be arrested a few days later. Hammond also faces drug charges because of THC oil and suspected marijuana the trooper says he found in his car.
