USDM: More than half of Ga. now drought-free

More than half of Georgia, including parts of northeast Georgia, are now considered drought-free by the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).

Most of the drought-free counties are in central and south-central parts of the state.

In north Georgia, the only counties that are included are a few that run from Lumpkin, Dawson and Forsyth westward to Floyd. And not all of every county is included.

The level of Lake Lanier, meanwhile, is unchanged from a week ago. It’s at 1068.0 and for the month it’s up 1.2 feet.
