*With the urgent need for health care professionals in northeast Georgia, the University of North Georgia (UNG) is producing a growing number of new leaders in the field. Seventy-six nursing students were pinned and graduated from UNG during recent ceremonies.
*The current issue of Georgia Trend magazine contains the publication’s annual list of the Most Influential Georgians. It includes four people from our area: Northeast Georgia Health System President & CEO Carol Burrell of Gainesville; state Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch of Dahlonega; and Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell McMurry of Buford, who once served as head of the GDOT District office in Gainesville. The same edition of the magazines includes a list of Notable Georgians and this year it includes a former Gainesville resident: Cathy Cox, President of Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville.
