*The University of North Georgia (UNG) is scheduled to award almost 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall, and more than 600 graduates took part in commencement ceremonies Saturday in the Convocation Center on UNG’s Dahlonega Campus.
*North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) recently named four students as finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL). They include Yuliya Havrylesku, Culinary Arts student from Winder and Stacy Snyder, Registered Nursing student from Murrayville. The finalists will compete Jan. 9 in front of a panel of business, civic, and industry leaders, who will select the NGTC’s 2025 GOAL winner who will represent the college at the regional and state competitions.
*Janis Mangum, the sheriff of Jackson County, who is retiring at the end of the year was recognized in Congress last week by a resolution offered by Rep. Mac Collins (R-10th District). Mangum was the second woman elected sheriff in Georgia. She’s held the office since 2012. Her career in law enforcement began when she took a job as radio operator for the sheriff’s office now heads in 1985.
