Two-week road construction project underway in Commerce

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the City of Commerce began intersection improvements at Georgia 15 Alternate and Washington Street in Jackson County Monday. Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to be finished by June 13.

To accommodate construction, Washington Street is closed to thru traffic until the work is completed.

Message boards have been placed in advance to alert motorists of the closure – two along Georgia 15 Alternate and one on Washington Street. Work will take place during daylight hours and includes temporary lane closures on Georgia 15 southbound for two days for milling and paving operations.

During these closures, flaggers will be present to guide drivers through the work zone.
