Truett-McConnell University (TMU) president Dr. Emir Caner was placed on leave by the university’s board of trustees Friday amid sex abuse charges lodged against two now-former administrators at the school.
In a statement released following a board meeting said the meeting was held “out of genuine concern…with broken hearts to address allegations of sexual abuse regarding Hayle Swinson, or any others”
At the meeting, board chairman Robby Foster presented three proposals to his fellow trustees and after discussing them, the board recommended: 1) a third-party investigation be conducted by Richard Hyde with Phoenix Research LLC; 2) that President Dr. Emir Caner (pictured) be placed on administrative leave until the investigation is completed; and 3) that Dr. John Yarbrough serve Truett McConnell University as acting president until a final determination can be made regarding the trustees’ ultimate decision on this matter.
The recommendations were passed unanimously.
