The average temperatures in Gainesville and statewide during May were about three degrees above normal, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The agency’s May 2024 Climate Summary shows the average in Gainesville was 71.8 or 3.1 degrees above normal. Of the ten “climate sites” the Peachtree City NWS office covers, Gainesville and Atlanta, each at 3.1 degrees above normal, were the warmest.
The warmest day of the month in Gainesville was May 26 when the high reached 88. The other nine reporting stations each recorded 90 or 91 as their hottest days – all during the same week as Gainesville’s.
Precipitation: Gainesville (+0.36), along with Columbus (+2.55 inches) and Rome (2.75 inches), were the only places reporting above average rainfall during the month.
The NWS Peachtree City summary does not include middle and south Georgia. NWS offices in Tallahassee, Fla., and Jacksonville, Fla., handle those areas.
