State revenues down; Warning for motorists

*Georgia’s net tax collections in April totaled $3.96 billion, for a decrease of 5.4 percent compared to FY 2023, when they approached $4.19 billion for the month. Year-to-date, net revenue was $27.45 billion, a decrease of 1.2 percent compared to the same ten-month period in FY 2023, a period during which the state’s motor fuel excise tax was suspended.

*Utility work associated with the replacement of the Johnny Mize Bridge over Hazel Creek in Demorest has begun. And city officials say crews are working “very close” to the road. For that reason, Demorest Police have issued a warning: They will be strictly enforcing the Construction Zone 25 mph speed limit. The road is a heavily traveled connector between Clarkesville and Cornelia and funnels a lot of traffic to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham and other medical facilities that are nearby.
