State recognizes Hall teacher; Christian retreat planned in Habersham; GPD police beat

*Each year, the state ESOL Language Program honors outstanding ESOL (English as a Second Language) teachers across Georgia. Tammy Herrin from Myers Elementary was singled out as the Hall County Exemplary ESOL Teacher. She received her certificate from Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods and Dr. Margaret Baker, Title III/ESOL Manager.

*A public hearing will be held Monday by the Habersham County Commission on a Conditional Use Application for a Christian Retreat on 53 acres at 735 Kennedy Mountain Road.

*A 65-year-old man ended up in jail recently after he allegedly fled a traffic stop by Gainesville Police. A police spokesman says officers did not chase him but later located him at his home. He’s charged with a license plate violation, no proof of insurance, driving with an invalid license, and fleeing and attempting to elude. And a 50-year-old woman is accused of shoplifting about $1,000 worth of power tools on three occasions from Lowe’s on Shallowford Road. Two of the thefts occurred in March and the third earlier this month. She was arrested Tuesday.
