A marker has been dedicated at Poultry Park in Gainesville by the Georgia Historical Society which recognizes the state’s poultry industry and one of its pioneer companies, Fieldale Farms.
The marker joins hundreds of others across the state in recognition of individuals, events, businesses and more.
In announcing plans for it, the historical society noted that since shortly after World War II, Fieldale Farms has helped establish Gainesville as “the poultry capital of the world,” and poultry as one of Georgia’s most important industries in the second half of the 20th century.
Poultry Park sits at the intersection of Academy Street and Jesse Jewell Parkway, named after a Gainesville resident considered the “father” of the state’s poultry industry.
