Stormy Weather: Two tornadoes confirmed, some power outages still reported

Some folks in northeast Georgia were still without power as of 7:30 Wednesday morning following those severe storms that rumbled across north Georgia overnight – and a couple of tornadoes were reported elsewhere in the state, but Hall County come through it all with little damage reported.

Jackson EMC reported 12% of its customers were still in the dark, most of them in Jackson County.

Habersham EMC had .07% of its customers with power, all of them in White County.

Amicalola EMC: 220 outages, the majority in the Ellijay area.

Blue Ridge EMC: 172, mostly in Union County

Sawnee EMC: 5 outages, all along Georgia 20 between Suwanee and Cumming

Georgia Power: A small number, confined to the Buford, Jefferson, Elberton and Clayton areas in northeast Georgia with most of its outages in metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia – which were hardest hit by the storms.

The National Weather Service reports two tornadoes confirmed by radar in northwest Georgia late Tuesday night into early this morning. Rain, heavy at times, but no reports of tornado damage as of 5:00 a.m. Storms triggered additional tornado warnings in metro Atlanta around 1:00 a.m. and later, but no tornadoes spotted.

“Pretty good,” is how Hall County Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security Director Zach Brackett describes the storms’ impact on the county, overall. “A few trees down here and there but nothing major.”
