Serious injury in Candler Rd. crash

A Barrow County man is free on $12,500 bond following his arrest Friday in connection with a two-vehicle traffic accident south of Gainesville that resulted in serious injuries to a passenger in one of the vehicles.

GEORGIA STATE PATROL NEWS RELEASE:

“On Friday May 10, 2024,  Troopers responded to a two vehicle crash on SR 60 (Candler Road) at Belmont Heights Drive.

Allen Brantley Duncan, 34, of Barrow County, was driving a white 2016 Ford F250 Super Duty while pulling a trailer on SR 60 (Candler Rd) North.

Dawn Marie Sturdavant, 60, of Braselton, was driving a silver 2015 Kia Optima LX on SR 60 (Candler Rd) South.

Geoffrey Allen Sturdavant, 34, of Braselton, was a passenger in the Kia Optima LX.

Mr. Duncan was traveling on SR 60 (Candler Rd) North. Mr. Duncan failed to maintain his lane completely driving on the wrong side of the road for several miles.

Mr. Duncan crossed the center line around Belmont Heights Dr. Mrs. Sturdavant was traveling on SR 60 (Candler Rd) South when she saw the white Ford F250 traveling towards her in her lane. Mrs. Sturdavant quickly tried to move out of the way and into the north lane of SR 60 (Candler Rd). Mr. Duncan quickly jerked the Ford F250 back towards the north lane striking the Kia Optima LX in the front of the vehicle, with the front of the Ford F250. The Kia Optima was pushed off the roadway and into a ditch where the Kia Optima landed on the driver’s side.

Mrs. Sturdavant and Mr. Sturdavant were transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center of Gainesville. Mrs. Sturdavant sustained minor injuries, and Mr. Sturdavant sustained serious injuries.

Mr. Duncan was arrested for reckless driving, and serious injury by a motor vehicle. Mr. Duncan was transported to the Hall County Jail.”
