S. Hall traffic stop leads to drug distribution charge

An Oakwood man was still in jail early Tuesday afternoon without bond following his recent arrest on drug distribution and other charges.

According to Flowery Branch Police, James A. Smith, 44, was stopped Saturday by an officer in the Atlanta Highway/Radford Road area because of a window tint violation involving the vehicle he was driving.

“During the traffic stop, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the
vehicle, which provided probable cause to conduct a search,” police spokesman Brett Sweeney said. “Upon searching the vehicle, officers located over five ounces of marijuana, a firearm, and multiple drug-
related objects.”

Lt. Sweeney added that Smith was taken into custody without incident and charged with:

  • Possession of Marijuana – Felony
  • Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute – Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime – Felony
  • Possession of Drug-Related Objects – Misdemeanor
  • Window Tint Violation – Misdemeanor
