Retired, longtime Gville educator dies

A woman who spent nearly 30 years with the Gainesville City School System (GCSS) has died.

Dr. Helen Therese Berg Fish died recently in Savannah.

According to her obituary, Dr. Berg’s passion for education led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Primary Education, followed by a master’s in early childhood education and literature from Brenau University, and both an Educational Specialist and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia.

She spent most of her career from 1986-2013 at Enota Elementary, Fair Street School, and Centennial Elementary in Gainesville. A devoted Catholic, her final chapter in education was at St. Anne’s Catholic School in Bristol, Virginia, where she worked until 2015. 

Fish was a native of Minneapolis, Minn., and that where her funeral will take place later this month.
