A recently released report says Gainesville has one of the lowest number of union workers in the country – percentagewise.
In the wake of new political battles over workers’ rights, including President Trump’s recent executive order curbing collective bargaining for federal employees, organized labor is once again front and center in the national conversation. And while unionization is fading in some locations, others may be poised to see a resurgence.
So, where does Gainesville stand?
A new analysis from Construction Coverage shows unionization is low in the Gainesville metropolitan area, which includes all of Hall County. The report says 1,772 workers belong to unions in the Gainesville metro area, or 1.8%—the 10th lowest union membership rate of any small metro areas.
The full report covers over 250 U.S. metro areas and all 50 states, with a detailed breakdown of union membership and representation rates and totals. The full report can be found here: https://constructioncoverage.com/research/most-unionized-cities-in-americ
