Police chase; More scams or attempted scams; A $2K+ shoplifting

*A 24-year-old man was arrested early Saturday and faces a lengthy list of charges including Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest was made about 3:00. He’s also charged with DUI and other traffic-related violations.

*The sheriff’s office is also investigating a report that someone used a woman’s identity to obtain a COVID relief loan in 2020. The victim became aware of the identity theft when her social security check was garnished to repay the loan, according to the sheriff’s office.

*Gainesville Police are investigating three scams that cost the victims more than $12,700. Reports show that the victim of most of that was 65-year-old man who lost $8,200 to the scammers. In addition, a 34-year-old man says he’s “out” $2,400 to con artists. And a shoplifter at Belk at Lakeshore Mall got away with $2,189 worth of merchandise.

Details on each of these will not likely be available until Monday when law enforcement offices reopen following the weekend.
