One person wounded, his brother in custody following shooting, brief standoff in Oakwood

Oakwood Police Chief Tim Hatch found himself in the middle of a domestic incident Friday afternoon in a residential area of the city when shots rang out.

OAKWOOD POLICE NEWS RELEASE:

“…at approximately 1:30, ChiefHat ch was patrolling through the neighborhood on Ridge valley Drive when he overheard multiple gunshots nearby. A Hispanic male flagged him down and told him that he had been shot by his brother.

Chief Hatch was able to render first aid to the victim, get additional units to respond to assist with first aid, and set up a perimeter on the suspects’ residence.

The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. He sustained critical injuries but is in stable condition at this time (early Friday evening).

The suspect initially fired multiple shots at his brother, ran back into the residence, and refused to respond to police commands to exit the residence. Chief Hatch was able to call the suspect on his cellphone and talked him into surrendering to police in the front yard. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as being the victim’s brother, Marcelo Mariduene. He is a resident of Oakwood Georgia.

GBI Crime Scene responded to the residence and is currently processing it for evidence with the Oakwood Police Department.

Chief Hatch would like to thank the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, UNG (University of North Georgia) Police Department, (state parol),  and the Flowery Branch Police Department for immediate assistance with setting up a perimeter and getting citizens evacuated from the area during this incident.

Marcelo Mariduene was transported to the Hall County Jail on Aggravated Battery and other pending charges.”
