UPDATE #2 – 2:45 P.M. WEDNESDAY: The two people who died in the officer involved shooting in Banks County Tuesday have been identified by the GBI as Joshua Everett Emmett, 45, Alto, and Meagan Victoria Feaster, 33, of Forsyth (correct).
A FCSO spokeswoman Wednesday would not say which of the deceased the deputies were trying to arrest. Nor would she say if the deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave which routinely happens in officer involved shootings, referring to a news release issued Tuesday night that says in part “In accordance with agency policy, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Professional Standards will conduct an internal investigation into the incident.”
UPDATE #1. 7:45 P.M. TUESDAY – Two people were killed in the officer involved shooting in Banks County Tuesday afternoon but the GBI, which is investigating the incident, says no officers were hurt.
GBI NEWS SRELEASE:
Preliminary information indicates at about 9:30 a.m., Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies were at a Tipton Drive address in Alto to serve an arrest warrant on an individual located there.
At approximately 11:05 a.m., Forsyth County deputies entered the
residence, and the shooting took place. Two individuals were shot and pronounced
deceased on the scene. None of the Forsyth County deputies were injured.
…Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies had been at the location to only provide support and were
not directly involved in the incident.
The two deceased individuals’ bodies will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur…for autopsies.
(Their) identities…are being withheld pending notifications of next of kin.”
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies were in Banks County serving a felony arrest
warrant to a sex offender for violating the conditions of his probation.
EARLIER STORY. POSTED 6:15 P.M. – Investigators spent most of the afternoon in a Banks County neighborhood Tuesday at the scene of an officer involved shooting.
It happened about noon, according to the sheriff’s office, in the Cedar Drive area near Alto.
The sheriff’s office, as is usually the case for local law enforcement when something like this happens, has asked the GBI to investigate. Neither agency is commenting further at this time.
