First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Hall County were up in May but down statewide, according to the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL).
In Hall County, there was an increase of 10.8 percent compared to April. Statewide, the number was down seven percent.
Over the year, claims in Hall County were up 12.9 percent and down statewide 16.5 percent.
In the 13-county Georgia Mountains Region, which includes Hall and most other counties in northeast Georgia, the number of applications in May was up 6.7 percent compared to an increase of 14.7 percent a year ago.
