UPDATE: Additional charges filed against Gville robbery suspect

9:45 P.M. MONDAY UPDATE:

Two additional charges have been filed against the Oakwood man arrested last week for trying to rob a Gainesville convenience store.  Hall County Jail records show that Douglas Arnell Ward Jr., 29, has now been charged with probation violation and a second count of possession of a gun during the commission of a crime.

Gainesville Police say an Oakwood man has been arrested for the attempted robbery of a convenience store early Thursday.

Douglas Arnell Ward Jr., 29, reportedly tried to rob the Texaco on Browns Bridge Road. Police say he entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk, who was behind bullet resistant barriers, immediately called police.

Ward left on foot prior to prior to officers’ arrival, a news release says. “With the use of surveillance footage, police were able to identify Ward,” it continues. “Officers located Ward on Industrial Boulevard later in the day and took him into custody.”

He is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a gun by a convicted felon, possession of a gun during the commission of a crime, theft by receiving and shoplifting.
