NWS: Henry Co. twister was an F2; Georgian 3rd in National Spelling Bee

*The tornado that roared through Henry County Thursday afternoon damaged at least 13 homes as it stormed through a subdivision in Locust Grove. One house belonging to actor Tray Chaney of the HBO series ‘The Wire” was destroyed. Chaney took to social media to thank those who came to his family’s aid. The actor suffered minor injuries while his son remains in the ICU at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with several broken ribs and a fractured facial bone after being tossed 300 feet from the family home by the storm.  Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says it was an F2 twister, with stop winds of about 135 mph. Weather service experts conducted an in-the-field survey of the damage Friday.

*A Georgia 5th grader has placed third at the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee. Eleven-year-old Dunwoody Elementary student Sarv Dharavane was the youngest participant in the final round Thursday. He came in 22nd at last year’s bee.
