NE Ga. lawmaker running for Lt. Gov.

State Sen. Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega) has filed the necessary paperwork and announced Thursday that he plans to run for Lt. Governor next year. Incumbent Bert Jones expects to run for governor.

“I’m running for Lieutenant Governor because Georgia deserves bold leadership that will stand up to the insanity of the Democrat Party, protect our families from the invasion of criminal illegal aliens and keep our economy vibrant and strong,” Gooch said in making his announcement.

He currently represents Georgia’s 51st District in northeast Georgia. In 2022, his colleagues elected him as Majority Leader of the Senate Majority Caucus. Gooch previously served as a member of the Georgia Department of Transportation Board and as Lumpkin County’s sole County Commissioner.

He owns a private environmental services company in Dahlonega.
