Maysville man charged with $40k theft

BANKS CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE:

“(Recently) the Banks County Sheriff’s Office investigators were called to the scene of an entering auto incident at the Farm Bureau location, where several tools were reported stolen. Shortly afterward, a second report of an entering auto was received.

Investigative resources were utilized to identify a gray Ford F-150, which matched the vehicle captured on surveillance footage at the Farm Bureau scene. Surveillance was established, and the suspect vehicle was soon spotted entering Banks County.

As deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect fled, prompting a pursuit. The pursuit ended when Banks County deputies executed a successful PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

As a result of the investigation, search warrants were obtained and investigators recovered 25 of the 26 items taken, with an estimated value of $40,000.

Richard Hammett, 39, from Maysville, Georgia, is charged with 2 counts of Entering Auto, Burglary 2nd Degree, Fleeing, Miscellaneous Traffic Offense, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Criminal Damage of Property in the 2nd and Parole Violation.”
