Man recovering after rescue from nearly 100-foot well

A man who was pulled from a 75-foot deep well in Habersham County is recovering after his rescue Sunday night.

HABERSHAM CO. NEWS RELEASE:

“…at approximately (6:30) p.m., Habersham
County Emergency Services responded to an incident at an
unoccupied home located in the northern part of the county.

The caller reported that her boyfriend had fallen through the floor
while walking through the structure.

Units from Habersham County Emergency Services were
dispatched to the scene. They were joined by the Rabun County
Special Emergency Response Team and the Hall County High-
Angle Emergency Response Team. Personnel from Gainesville
Fire…also brought in the Georgia Search and Rescue
(GSAR) truck (pictured), which is regionally deployed but housed within
their department…

Crews remained on scene for approximately three hours, working…to ensure a safe and efficient rescue. Once emergency personnel reached the individual, it took just 29 minutes to
extract him safely from the…well…

(He) was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center
in Gainesville with non-life-threatening injuries.

“We are incredibly grateful to the assisting agencies for their
support,” said (Habersham) Chief Jason Davey. “We could not have performed a
safe rescue without the help of all the partner agencies who
responded. It’s a testament to the strength and unity of our
neighboring communities.””
