Gregory Alan Motes, age 55, of Gainesville, has been charged with felony theft by taking after he allegedly sold a relative’s vehicle to a recycling business last month. Motes had been charged less than a week ago in connection with an incident involving the vehicle he was driving and a moped operator.
According to the investigation into the latest incident, the relative had been storing a Hummer H3 frame and tires on property belonging to Mr. Motes and another relative. She was using the vehicle for parts. The victim reported the vehicle was missing on Tuesday, May 20. The investigation, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) determined the vehicle had been sold for scrap on May 16. The value of the vehicle and tires was estimated at $1,500.
Mr. Motes was served with the theft by taking warrant at the Hall County Jail, where he had remained incarcerated on charges unrelated to the theft.
