Mall of Ga.: Two-day crackdown on shoplifting nets 19 arrests

GWINNETT CO. POLICE NEWS RELEASE:

“(On May 29 and May 30, the Gwinnett County Police Department conducted a targeted retail theft enforcement operation at the Mall of Georgia. The initiative was a coordinated effort between the Gwinnett County Police Department and multiple retailers in and around the Mall of Georgia.

The two-day operation resulted in the arrest of 19 individuals for shoplifting offenses. Officers obtained a total of 12 felony warrants and 27 misdemeanor warrants during the operation. In addition, 24 outstanding warrants from other Metro-Atlanta area law enforcement agencies were cleared. Law enforcement recovered (more than $5,300) in stolen merchandise.

A total of 19 officers participated in the operation, representing the North Precinct Community Response Team (CRT), East Precinct CRT, Central Precinct CRT, and Bay Creek Precinct CRT.

The enforcement effort was also supported by 11 retailers and the Georgia Retailers Organized Crime Alliance (GROC).

Among those arrested were Demesha Brown and Jasmine Harris, both of whom had 12 active warrants through various agencies. Notably, one of Brown’s outstanding warrants was for failure to appear on a (racketeering) charge in Cherokee County…”
