The northern lights put on a rare showing in our area Friday night. In fact, it was visible at least as far south as the Florida panhandle based on some of the pictures and comments posted on social media – and there were plenty of them.
The one accompanying this story is from the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Peachtree City and was taken in Gainesville.
Scientists had been predicting the celestial show for some time and it should be visible again in our area Saturday night and maybe Sunday as well.

Oh, there was one other thing that had many people in our area looking skyward Friday. This was earlier in the day. The Goodyear Blimp. Speculation abounded as to where it was going. But most centered on the NASCAR races this weekend in Darlington, S.C.
