There was a two-pronged celebration in Jackson County Monday as officials marked the 50th anniversary of Jackson County Emergency Services (JCES) and recognized a man who was a public safety pioneer in the county.

“…State Representative Houston Gaines presented a Resolution of Acknowledgment which was passed by Georgia’s House of Representatives (acknowledging the EMS milestone) …
In addition, Board of Commissioner Chairman Tom Crow also presented Doug Waters with a plaque recognizing him as the first EMS Director of Jackson County, which will be hung in his honor at the new Jackson County administration building once it’s construction is complete.
This was presented to Mr. Waters in honor of his 60+ years of dedication to establishing and improving Public Safety in Jackson County. This includes Volunteer Fire Departments, Civil Defense, the Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Medical Services, Rescue Units, Law Enforcement, severe weather alerts, the County-Wide Radio System, and “911.”
