UPDATE: 31 charges filed against Sunday chase suspect

6:45 A.M. TUESDAY UPDATE:

The metro Atlanta man arrested following Sunday’s high-speed chase that ended in an accident on Green Street, Sebastian Alamonte, 18, Norcross, is facing 31 charges, according to Hall County Jail records. They include serious injury by vehicle. Most, however, are traffic violations directly related to the chase itself, including illegally changing lanes, driving on the wrong side of the road, improper passing, etc.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED 6:45 MONDAY NIGHT:

Hall County sheriff’s deputies are charging a Norcross man with a number of traffic offenses after he evaded deputies Sunday evening…before eventually being involved in a wreck on Green Street the state patrol says left three innocent people injured, one of them seriously.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Deputies had received a law enforcement BOLO (be on the lookout) for a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS that had fled from Suwanee Police officers earlier in the day.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., a deputy on patrol saw the lookout car heading north toward Green Street. The deputy followed the car, whose driver changed lanes frequently without using signals, swerved through traffic and passed vehicles on both sides, at one point driving north in the southbound lanes.

The deputy activated his vehicle’s lights and sirens at Riverside Drive (Green Street split) to stop the driver, who was endangering the community. The suspect continued north and turned left on Burnam Wood Dr. The suspect turned around in the cul-de-sac and hit the deputy’s vehicle push bar on his way out. The suspect led the deputy to Thompson Bridge Road and went north. The deputy lost sight of the car in north Hall County and deactivated his emergency sirens and lights.

Other deputies in the area then spotted the Camaro and pursued the car south on Thompson Bridge Road to Dunlap Landing Road, where they terminated their pursuit, with the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) then following the suspect.

Deputies maintained communication on GSP’s whereabouts and responded to Green Street where the suspect car had been involved in a wreck. GSP handled the wreck investigation. HCSO and Gainesville Police Department officers assisted with traffic.

The driver of the car, Sebastian Almonte, 18, of Norcross, was being booked into the Hall County Jail on Monday afternoon, April 28, after being released from the hospital.

Almonte committed numerous traffic offenses while he was attempting to evade deputies. HCSO charge details will be provided upon completion of booking.”
