Sgt. Jacob London with the Hail County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU), who works as a task force officer with the Secret Service, was recently recognized by that federal agency for his work on data extraction.
The award was based on the number of devices extracted and the overall data extracted in 2024.
Sgt. London ranked second in the state and 17th in the country in those metrics.
Data extraction in law enforcement refers to the process of retrieving and copying digital data from various sources, primarily electronic devices like cell phones, computers, and cloud storage, to be used as evidence or to gather intelligence in investigations.
This process often involves using specialized tools and techniques to access, copy, and analyze data, including messages, call logs, contacts, photos, videos, location data, and even deleted content.
