HCSO: Burglary, assault, foot chase end in arrest

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Gainesville man this week following a domestic-related aggravated assault and foot chase.

Deputies responded to the female victim’s residence in the 2200 block of Titshaw Drive at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Monday, May 26. According to the initial investigation, the suspect, Ricardo Guzman-Hernandez, 31, of Gainesville, entered the house through a window and assaulted the victim, 43. He knew the victim prior to the incident.

Guzman-Hernandez grabbed the victim’s arms several times and attempted to strangle her with his hand and forearm. He attempted to grab her phone to prevent her from calling 911. The victim got away to another room, and Guzman-Hernandez left the house. Hall County Fire Rescue checked the victim on the scene. She refused transport to the hospital.

While deputies were with the victim, others were checking the area for Guzman-Hernandez. At approximately 11:50 p.m., they spotted him walking at Industrial Boulevard and Hall Street. Deputies attempted to detain him, and he ran. Guzman-Hernandez led them to Mountaincrest Drive, where he fell. Deputies arrested him without further incident.

Deputies obtained warrants charging Guzman-Hernandez with the following crimes:

  • First-degree burglary (felony)
  • Aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act (felony)
  • Simple battery under the Family Violence Act (misdemeanor)
  • Interfering with an emergency call (misdemeanor)
